Although amazonite is named after the Amazon River, and can be found in Brazil, the gem was in fact known in the Old World long before South America had been discovered. It is believed that the Brazilian Amazons gave these green stones to the explorers who visited
them, thus explaining the name. This milky green stone is a beautiful compliment to stones such as turquoise and gaspeite.
